Presa canario dog2/12/2024 ![]() Grooming Presa Canarios is a breeze since their coats are short-haired, but they’re moderate shedders. These dogs are not fetch-type of dogs, so it’s important to find activities that they’ll enjoy. ![]() Playtime is also important as they will bond closely with those who spend the most time with them, so games like tug-of-war will help burn off energy. Exercising should consist of at least two to three 1-mile walks a day with jogging intervals to keep them in tip-top shape, while preventing boredom and obesity. Presa Canarios are working dogs that were bred for livestock work, so they’ll need a fair amount of exercise daily. That being said, these dogs are not suitable for families with lots of visitors or for families with overly rambunctious children. Although these massive Mastiff-based dogs have a serious outlook on life, Presas are actually quite affectionate to those they consider family and are quite gentle with children. Presas are naturally aloof and suspicious of strangers, so early socialization is a must to prevent people-based aggression. They will naturally take up the position of a working farm dog, especially if they’re living on a livestock farm. Presa Canarios are great for rural and farm living, especially for bigger homesteads that need the extra set of eyes. Unfortunately, there’s a long history of using Presa Canarios for dogfighting in the Canary Islands, but the practice has been almost completely stopped in today’s world. Bred for working livestock and protecting the homestead, Presa Canarios have a powerful build and make quite the imposing sight to see. One of the older of the Mossoler-type dogs, their history has been recorded as early as the 13th century. Perro de Presa Canario dogs, often shorted to Presa or Presa Canarios, are a large breed of dog hailing from the Canary Islands. Kennel.Presa Canario Overview Image Credit: volofin, Shutterstock The post-Spanish Conquest Presa Canario was developed by adding the Iberian Presa, Presa Espanol and the native Bardino Majorero.įCI: Group 2, Section 2.1 Molossian: Mastiff type #346.Importation and sale is prohibited in Australia and New Zealand. Was used for dog fighting until the 1950s (made illegal in the 1940s).Also known as the Canary Mastiff, Canary Catch Dog, Canarian Dogo and Dogo Canario.Health: May be susceptible to hip and elbow dysplasia, osteochondritis dissecans and panosteitis, entropion, hypothyroidism, demodectic mange, epilepsy and cryptorchidism. Temperament: Suspicious, Strong Willed, Dominant, Gentle, Calm. Height: Female: 22–24 inches (56–61 cm) Male: 24–26 inches (60–65 cm)Ĭolor: Black, Brindle, Fawn, Silver Fawn, Red Fawn, Red Brindle. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) fully recognized the Presa Canario in 2011. Fortunately, the breed was revived by enthusiasts in the 1970s. With the prohibition of dog fighting in the 1940s, and the introduction of the German Shepherd, Doberman Pinscher and Great Dane to the Canary Islands, the popularity of the Presa Canario plummeted. Between the 16th and 18th centuries, it was illegal for anyone to own a Presa Canario who was not a farmer or hunter. They were buried beside their owners to guide them through the afterlife and some were ceremonially consumed.Īfter the Spanish conquest (1402-1496), the breed was first documented in 1501 when a Spanish decree allowed the pig farmers ( puerqueros) to possess “one of the larges.” Because of its size and ferocity, the Presa Canario was used to kill the wild island dogs that frequently attacked cattle. The ancestor of the Presa Canario took part in the myths, funeral customs and gastronomy of the Canary Island aboriginals ( Guanches). It is the animal symbol for the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. The Perro de Presa Canario or Presa Canario (Spanish for Canarian catch dog) is a large Molosser-type dog originally bred for working livestock.

Slack stock direct listing2/12/2024 ![]() The stock has traded up then down then back up again over the last 52 weeks ending up very close to its DPO price today. SPOT already had access to almost unlimited capital being cash-flow positive, which means that the capital raised from this DPO wasn't essential to the future success of the business. Spotify's DPO was successful because the company was already very well-known and distinguished in its category, giving them confidence that the DPO wouldn't go unnoticed. The lack of free-float might have pushed the price beyond its fair value because demand outweighed supply. The one small hiccup that this IPO saw was a lack of free-floating shares on SPOTs listing day (only 5.6% of shares traded) because of how few existing shareholders wanted to sell. The shares opened over 25% higher than NYSE's reference price of $132, and the company closed the day with a $26.5 billion valuation, making it one of the top ten biggest publicly traded tech stocks. SPOTs direct listing was a success, with barely a hitch. One year ago today Spotify launched its DPO on the New York Stock Exchange. A problem that could arise is a lack of free-floating shares if not enough existing stockholders sell on the initial listing day, which could initially drive the stock above its fair value. A direct listing also permits existing shareholders to sell out of there shares immediately with no holding period. A DPO lets everyone get in on the "ground-floor" allowing for a much more natural and equitable public offering. The price of the stock isn't just set by the big banks and institution but by the market which includes smaller retail investors and traders. There is no underwriting fee or greenshoe for Wall Street to profit off of. The advantage of using the DPO format to list shares is that there is no investment bank taking control. With no investment bank making a market for the shares, if there isn't enough interest in the stock than the price could plummet and the capital raised could be significantly less than expected. The exchange takes all the buy and sell orders to come to an opening price for the shares. With a DPO the initial offer price is decided by the market on the day the shares become available. Going with a direct listing over an IPO comes with some significant risks. During the initial sale, the investment bank(s) create a market for the stock, buying and selling shares to keep the price from becoming too volatile. Investment banks charge an underwriting fee anywhere from 3-8% of total offering and usually involves an option for the banks to buy shares at the offer price aka a greenshoe. The shares can either be bought out entirely by the investment bank(s) or sold under Best Efforts Agreement where the bank sells the shares on behalf of the company but doesn't guarantee the amount of capital that will be raised. The goal of the investment bank is to set a price that will be oversubscribed, meaning there is more interest in the stock than shares to be offered. ![]() ![]() The offer price will be decided by the underwriter based on financial data and the amount of interest that the underwriter was able to collect. The underwriter will gather interest from banks, institutional investors, mutual funds, etc. With the conventional IPO model companies use an investment bank like JP Morgan JPM, Goldman Sachs GS, Morgan Stanley MS, or a syndicate of them, to underwrite their offering. They will be the second major tech company behind Spotify SPOT to do a direct public offering (DPO).Ĭhoosing to go with a traditional IPO gives companies more stability and security. Slack, one of the many anticipate tech companies planning on going public in 2019, has decided to debut their shares to the public through a direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange.

Film anaconda 1997 movie2/12/2024 The upside is that the rest of you will be perfectly safe from further snake attack because it's gonna take that python around an hour to eat Steve, and days to digest him. You know the old joke about, "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you"? Well, if you're in a group of people and one of you gets grabbed by a python and eaten, then that's just too bad for Steve. Secondly, even if a snake managed to eat an adult person, that'd be it. And few horror films are willing to be so transgressive as to have their monster snake devouring babies and children. ![]() Or, in some unfortunate cases, a snake smelling a prey animal that the human was trying to feed them and grabbing the human instead.įor some reason, though, people seem to find the idea of just being killed but not eaten less horrifying than being a successful lunch. Our body structure also doesn't lend itself well to being swallowed whole, and snakes can't eat any other way. That's not to say that snakes don't try, often resulting in an adult being killed but not devoured: it's simply a case of their eyes being bigger than their stomachs. An infant or small child is, unsurprisingly, at risk of being a snake's prey but there are very few verified cases of an adult human being eaten by a snake because there are very few snakes actually large enough to eat an adult. One, snakes generally don't eat people-or at least, not adult humans. It's a futile effort, most of the time, but it's exceptionally Sisyphean in the case of movies about snakes eating people. I'm sure that old fairy tale about snakes and apples doesn't help matters.Īll of this is to say that if a movie wants me to be scared of a snake it has to really work for it. In fact, many snakebite victims are people decided to react to the presence of a snake by killing it and karma got them when the dead snake's reflex actions made it bite them. And, in general, snakes are unfairly maligned creatures with far more to fear from us than we have from them. I know that, most of the time, snakes can be very sweet-tempered pets. We had pet snakes all my life, from tiny garter snakes to a six foot long bull snake. I'm not an idiot.Ī lot of this comes from my mother, who has always loved snakes. The mere sight of one does not make my hair stand on end and if I see one in the wild I'm just as likely to walk over for a closer look as run in the other direction-provided we're talking about just a harmless non-venomous snake, that is. ![]() I don't have a deep-down, ingrained, irrational fear of snakes. While the bizarre kills and plot of Lake Placid vs Anaconda might be worth a watch on next bad movie night, the third and fourth film stray too far into 'bad TV movie' without enough insanity to take them all the way into 'so bad it's good' territory.Oh, sure, if you put me in the same room with an angry cobra or a hungry reticulated python I'm probably going to be terrified, but that's not what I mean.
